Hey everyone - First time posting here but have read around a bit and appreciate the info provided here.

I am doing some route planning for a 7 week backpacking trip with my wife next year in Mexico/Guatemala/Belize. I believe I have the route mostly sketched out but am looking for some advice about one particular part of the route as there is not a ton of info online about this leg of the trip. During this part of the trip we will be departing from Antigua, and going for a couple days each to Raxruja (planning to stay at hotel cancuen and do the cave tubing tour at candelaria caves), Laguna Lachua (hiking in and staying at the lodge at the lake), and Lanquin/Semuc Champey. After we hit all three of these we will move on to Flores/Tikal.

I am looking for advice on getting to these three places. What order is best, in terms of shortest/easiest travel times? We are budget travelers and prefer cheap options, but we don't have unlimited time, so if it saves hours I would be open to shuttles over buses/vans, especially on the longer trips. I was thinking that not going to Laguna Lachua first would be best, as I would prefer not to arrive late in the day after a long travel day due to the hike in to the lake. I was tentatively thinking the order would be Antigua, Raxruja, Laguna Lachua, Lanquin, Flores. If this is the best order, does anyone have info on how to get between them?

Any advice/input is appreciated! Thanks!

Antigua to lanquin is a long day but can be done in a direct shuttle. Return to coban via minibus, bus to laguna lachua, minibus to raxruja then on to flores. That direct road you might see on maps between lanquin and raxruja via sebol has been in terrible condition for years, with no public transport running it. Maybe something does now- it would be worth asking around in lanquin when you are there as that would cut out some backtracking.

Sounds like a great trip- I've been to all those places but I'm still very envious!

From Antigua a shuttle to Lanquin is 8-10 hours. You can also take a Monja Blanca bus from Guatemala City to Coban (5 hours) and then a minibus to Lanquin (2 hours). We had time and stopped at the Biotopo del Quetzal on the way to Coban.

We took a bus from Lanquin to Pajal, a bus to Sebol and a bus to Raxhuja. That was in 2011 so I am not sure if the roads are worse now. They were not great then but the buses were running.

I have not been to Laguna Lachua but we did go to Chisec. If you do go via Coban to Laguna Lachua you will pass Chisec. If you have time a guide can take you to the Bombil Pek cave. Rappelling into the cave was also possible when we were there.
