I've done the Ft.Lauderdale/Spirit Air thing where the woman (with a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp) goes around with a clipboard "dealing" with those on a one way ticket. I have cut and pasted enroutesligo's "facts" and will just hand this to her next time. HA! - and damn her impudence!
I'm not sure how this will help me flying AA out of Miami, there the check-in woman (with a face like a pug licking pee off a nettle) actually threw my residency back at me because it was written in Spanish. Time to deploy guile and good looks- she won't stand a chance!
Governments initiated this process mostly to quell the flow of undocumented immigrants coming into a country for work, especially from bordering or nearby countries, not to discourage long-term tourists. If for some reason Guatemala became a very desirable destination for for the poor of Mexico, Honduras or any other nearby country full of the unemployed and underemployed, of which there is no shortage, suddenly they would care.
But they are just doing the work that the Guatemalteco does not want to do. Hear something similar to that before?
The airlines overcompensated after they were accused of only hiring only attractive people.
Most of Miami is Spanish speaking.
