Hi All.
I will be in Comitan Mexico headed south to Guatemala. I am curious if there is a route to Jacaltenango that does not route me south to Huehuetenango and then back north through Todos Santos. I plan to also visit Todos Santos but would come in from the north if this is possible. I traveled Huehue and Todos Santos a couple of years ago and am familiar with the area. Just want to see if I can do it without backtracking. Local buses or collective taxi are fine. Thanks.

There definitely are, but it's a pretty epic journey with slow travel times. You could consider entering at the Gracias a Dios border, which I haven't done but gets pretty good reviews... then mosey down through that area via Nenton. You could also cross at La Mesilla and then get off at one of the turn offs which go to... mmm... one of the Huistas, maybe at Camoja? Plenty of collectivos visiting all of those little villages, though with the way the roads are, one could take you 10 hours and another 5. I think the first option might be the easiest choice actually, it's actually a bit closer to Comitan and will take you through some interesting and untrodden areas. You could even combine it with a trip out to Laguna Brava...
