Want to help a locally run nature conservancy? Enjoy hiking up trails (challenging for all fitness levels) to ten+ waterfalls? Enjoy well prepared food and good accommodation in an uncrowded, high-altitude rainforest? You'll be warmly welcomed at and excited by your stay in the TNR.

Hello all,

My friend and I hope to travel to Costa Rica for two weeks during July. We would like to backpack throughout the country but are lost on how to plan our route. We would like to get a well rounded experience of the country from the rainforests to the volcanoes to the beaches. However we will only be able to use the public buses to get around the country. Help on where to go and what route to take would be greatly appreciated!

My Wife and I will be renting a personal boat (and capt) sometime the week of 4/25, and it will be about $400 total to do so. We'd have the boat/ guide from 5:30am- 4:30pm, and would include lunch/ snacks. #1 priority is surfing, but they also bring along snorkeling gear to keep her occupied. looking for someone that wants to surf mainly. This way we can buzz around and find waves on our own verses being with a large group.

Here the price + details + pic of the boat

My boyfriend an I are planning to drive to Cahuita from SJ, but since our flight lands at 4 we'd prefer to spend the night somewhere in between. (We'd rather not be driving after dark)
If we could stay close to somewhere that has a point of interest that would be a bonus, my searches aren't turning up much for Guapiles or Siquirres... Braulio Carrillo looks good but I can't seem to find anywhere close to stay.
If anyone has experience or suggestions to make this drive a bit more fun/interesting…

Holà peeps!

We will be in CR for 14 days beginning of May. We are thinking of forgoing north-west area, as it seems even more touristy and not as lush as other areas. We are interested in Wildlife first, hiking, beaches, diving, culture.
In terms of transportation, we do not plan on renting a car on this trip (but could be convinced), and getting around by bus, private charters and maybe even hitchhiking. We are open however to taking a interior flight (like to the OSA area).

Here is a list of…

I know this forum thoroughly despises the Manuel Antonio Park, but I'm looking for some creative suggestions of things to do, even if it means skipping the park altogether to see some of the surrounding areas. Unfortunately, due to my friend needing to be in Jaco at the end of our trip, we elected to spend a night in Manuel Antonio, so I can fly out early the next day to SJO.

We are coming from Uvita and will be spending Wednesday night (4/20) in Manuel Antonio. Everywhere on the internet raved…

Hi, I have a 3.5 week solo trip in July August in the process of being finalised. The plan on arrival in San Jose is the shuttle to Manuel Antonio, 3 days there then a shuttle to Sierpe and the boat to Drake Bay. I have 9 days booked to stay in the hostel, and then the plan is to boat back to Sierpe, shuttle back to SJ, night in a hotel before the shuttle to Puerto Viejo, and basing myself there for 9 days. Just about got everything sorted but I am having doubts about the 3 days in MA based on…

Hello,

We're a group of friends from Canada and found a great flight deal to San Jose. We will be there form Friday May 13 - Tuesday May 17.

I've been reading a lot about the various things Costa Rica has to offer. I understand that it's possible to do day trips from San Jose while keeping San Jose as our base.

Can anyone help advise whether it would make more sense to get out to Manuel Antonio / Arenal on the first day and just return when we're flying out? We're mostly interested in…
