Which is the better road for biking 126 or 130? I know both has a lot of uphill. Maybe one is steeper and shorter?
Don't need to go to Poas only Varablanca and on to Venecia and La Fortuna.
Cheapest place to sleep on the way would be Lagunilla Lodge US$ 35 per night?
any other hotel recommended?
muchas gracias

Hi,
Back for some more of your valuable advice please!
I have taken all advice on itinerary and am spending a good part of out 5 weeks on the Osa and Caribe coasts (main aim is to see wildlife/birds). We have some time in between and I am struggling to decide best plan:

I had thought of going to Santa Elena cloud forest and surroundings but advice seems to suggest Monteverde is fairly touristy, hard to get to and won't be very visible in August.

Next option would be 1-3 August around La Fortuna…

Dear All Fellow Travellers

I am heading out to Central America in Aug on a tour group and have decided to spend an additional 2 weeks after the tour in Costa Rica independently.
This is my itinerary so far...

San Miguel for 3 nights volunteering at Animal Rescue Centre
San Jose for 1 night (really just to assist with travelling back from SM and onto T)
Tortuguero for 2 nights
Cahuita for 1 night
Puerto Viejo for 3 nights
San Jose 1 night (again, just to help with travelling around the country)
Jaco…

Hi,
Any ideas on how to get from San Gerardo de Dota to the Caribbean coast (Puerto Viejo is where we're headed but anywhere in that area would be okay)? We know there is a bus up to San Jose but were hoping to avoid going into San Jose. Any shuttle services or public bus only?
thankyou

All,
I was hoping for some feedback on my loosely-planned trip. My friend and I will be arriving and departing from SJO, July 5th-August4th. Neither one of us has been to these countries, although I have spent time in Guatemala and Belize. We both have solid Spanish skills and are looking for quality > quantity, budget > amenities, nature/forest/volcanos > beaches. Any helpful suggestions or thoughts are welcome, particularly with regards to hostels. We have not made reservations except for our…

Mosquitoes

I am planning a trip to Costa Rica in late October/early November. My daughter is highly allergic to mosquitoes and cannot use any products containing DEET. We will be going to Monteverde Cloud Forest and Arenal Volcano National Park . Can anyone tell me how heavy the mosquitoes are in that area at that time of year?

Thanks

Bus tickets

Hi all,

So I've contacted the airline I'm flying into CR with and they said proof of bus tickets is sufficient for onward travel.

Can anyone share any bus companies which are reliable for purchase online?

Ultimately, I will be going from Monteverde up to the Nicaraguan border - so anything along that route is my ideal. Alternatively, perhaps I'll take a shuttle (but most seem to be around the $99 mark which seems pricey)

Thanks!
