I think this is similar to other postings, but I am still having trouble finding the right destination. I am traveling though CA. My adult daughter is joining me for one week in Costa Rica. She wants to go to a beach on the Pacific side, mostly to enjoy the scenery and relax. I gather. I have a LP guide book, have never been to Costa Rica, some of the resorts are very isolated and probably not realistic due to distance from San Jose and difficult roads. I think she would like to be near a…

I'm flying into San Jose Sunday and was hoping to stay at Pension Otoya Avs.3/5 Calle 1. My current guide book is a few yrs. old and the ph# 2213925 is incorrect. I'm meeting a friend who is staying at the Hotel Santo Tomas Avs. 7 Calle 3/5 and would like to be within walking distance.. The rates are to pricey for me and I was looking for something around 15-20 dollars for a double. Any other recommendations would be appreciated...

Hello there.
I am interested in a Masters program offered through the Universidad Nacional
de Costa Rica, but have doubts as to whether I'll like the country enought to stick
around for 2 years... or even to visit for that matter... My hope was
that by explaning what I like (and don't) those who are familiar with the country
might be able to help me make up my mind as to whether it's worth it to even
entertain the idea....

I am fluent in Spanish. I lived in Peru for the better part of 2 years, and…

We were thinking of going to C.R. for 10 days or so starting Aug. 10. Is this doable or will we be all wet all the time? We would like to go to Arenal and Monteverde then over to the coast, either Carillo, Nosara area or Quepos for Manuel Antonio. The 20 somethings want to go white water rafting . I went on the Pucare ? 2 yrs. ago in Jan. and I'm thinking with the rains it might be too much of a beast. Any thoughts ? Oh , if it's too wet in C.R. how about Peru and/or Ecuador ?

I am planning a Costa Rican holiday for my family (husband and 2 children aged 10 and 13) in December/January and we would prefer to travel by public transport and not hire a car.

Can anyone please advise if you think we would be able to comfortably walk to restaurants/shops etc from these hotels, and also if these hotels are reasonable places to stay?

Gilded Iguana - Nosara
Hotel Monte Real - La Fortuna
Hotel Arco Iris - Monteverde
La Costa de Papito - Puerto Viejo

Thanks in advance

I'm planning a two week stay with my sons, and would very much apreciate some advice.

We will probably rent a car and visit some parks and beaches.

1) Is it safe to bring children, aged 11 & 13?

2) How far will I get without spanish?

3) To what extent will crowdyness be a problem during this time?

4) What parks would you recommend with respect to 3?

5) What places allong the Pacific would you recommend for snorkelling?

Thanks in advance, Erik

Hi,

I'm traveling to Costa Rica with a couple of friends for a week at the end of May and would really appreciate some input and a reality check on the plan. We're flying into San Jose and taking a bus to Sierpe the next morning...from there we'll take a water taxi to Drake Bay where we stay for a couple of days to get open water certified for diving. Following that is where it gets a little fuzzy - I was initially thinking we could hike down to San Pedrillo and then take a boat to Sirena and…
