Hello All,
I have a business trip to San Jose and was able to squeeze out 3 full days on my own...As I read the posts, there are loads of good advice, but none for a good itinerary for only 3 days!
I will rent a car at San Jose airport and wish to drive around as much as I can...Not interested so much in beaches per se, as I live in Miami, USA...But will be interested in beach towns that are interesting or have a good mix of backpackers and locals ( not backpacking this time, of course, but i like…

Location: Montezuma, Costa Rica.

Terrible Day Trip

We just came back from a wonderful 7 days vacation in Montezuma, a total of six nights at the amazing Ylang Ylang Resort.
As per our activities, I’d decide to take my family in a day trip to Tortoga Island. From the different offices selling tours we decide to go with “Chicos Tours” as they were the cheapest in town and promised us to run a excellent operation, what a mistake!!!.
We booked the tour the night before with Adam at the Chicos front…

Everyone was so helpful with my Tortuguero question, I'm hoping for the same great advice on Osa. After reading everyone raving about Osa, I'm sold and want to go. Only thing is, I've also read some of the postings saying the Caribbean coast is better than the Pacific coast in the green season - less rain... What do you guys think? Is Osa the way to go regardless of the increased rain potential? Cahuita and the area around does all sound pretty amazing, too.

Also, I'm thinking if we're going…

Next week we'll go to CR for 3 weeks. My main concern is the humidity affecting my camera.
What do you advise when I bring my SLR-camera with me?

Saludos,
Monique (NL)

We want to rent a 4x4 during the second week of our stay in September. Is there only one way to get to Santa Elena from Arenal or La Fortuna, around the Laguna? Is it possible to drop down to San Isidrio and across? If both are possible, which would be the most spectacular? Any ideas on how long it would take? Thanks for your help. Forgot to say thanks in my message about buses to Límon!

My boyfriend (Spanish) and I (English) are travelling over for the first two weeks of September from Spain. We arrive in San José on a Sunday at 15.30. We want to head out immediately to Puerto Límon with the aim of getting to Tortuguero the next day. I've looked up the interbus option and it goes there once in the morning, no good. Are there frequent and reasonable domestic buses to Límon on this day? Would it be better to stop the night and fly??

Do I need a sleep sheet?

The details:

4 months, 4 folks (mom, dad, 4 & 7 year old), traveling all over the country, language school, home stays, cheapo hotels, some hostels, some house rentals with kitchens, some volunteering for various conservation organizations and staying at their jungle lodging, no sleeping bags.

Saw it as an item on a couple of packing lists. Silk recommended.

What do you think?

So, tickets are cheap now to Costa Rica so I'm popping down for a few days. I've been many times to Costa Rica but have never spent a night in San Jose.

I arrive at 2pm tomorrow and will be on an 8am Sansa flight out to the beach..

Where should I stay in San Jose and any ideas where I should hang? Yes, I've heard of the Del Rey...

Restaurant suggestions? Kind of a foodie...

Electronica live music venues/clubs/bars.

Budget is kinda open as it's only one night. I'm 34 year old guy and have…

Hi to you all

I know this subject must have cropped up time and again and that some of the experienced members may be sick of the same question! I HAVE trawled the many web sites and this forum too.

Husband and myself are lucky enough to be going to CR for three months from January to March and it will be our first visit to the country - we've rented accommodation near Playa Blanca/Playa Leona as a base.

Unfortunately I can't do too much walking due to an old back injury so we always end up…
