my friend was telling me about possibly being able to go from costa to venezuela by boat as opposed to flying. anyone know how easy a boat is to find that will go between the two countries?

I know visa questions pop up all the time so I apologise in advance. I flew into Costa Rica on the 25th July, and I plan on flying out on the 29th August. Australians only get 30 days visa free so is it worthwhile me heading down to panama for a couple of days at the end of my trip considering I´ll be in Puerto Viejo anyway? or will the 5 extra days be overlooked?

I am planning to fly to either of the above around 27th November. Ideally I am into hiking, and also would like to see dolphins and whales. Bearing in mind Sansa airlines flyes to both these places, which is the best place to do the above.

Am feeling kind of odd. 2007 is the first year I haven't been to CR even once( since I started in 2002). I ignored the "call", traveled here in the US instead. Now I am experiencing signs of withdrawal; wanting to eat gallo pinto, working "pura vida" into my conversations and blogs, etc. Any suggestions to tide me over till spring or summer of 2008? My son says join him in Italy in the spring. Will it suffice?

To elaborate on my post below...I am arriving into SJO at 7pm next Friday...Just wondering if I should rent a car right away...or just take a cab, do a little partying and deal with car rentals on Sat? I have a very good rate from Thrifty at the airport, so I might just take the car.
Another question...Should I stay in Alajuela instead of San Jose? Is there a decent nightlife in Alajuela?

Anyone had to travel to Costa rica that needed a visa? I am an Indonesian citizen going to costa rica, wanting to go to nicaragua and back to costa rica to fly out. How long do costa rican visas take to process? what is the border crossing like going into nicaragua?
I don't think I need a visa to nicaragua as they will give me a visa on arrival, but going back into costa rica is the problem as they don't issue double entry visas. anyone out there done this before?

Hello, it's been about 5 years since we've been to CR and since then have done a lot of travelling , have forgotten how long it itakes to get around by bus. We just found a decent flight to San Jose for the middle of October and were thinking of going North from there, maybe even into Nicaragua. From Liberia we'll descend along the coast in 3-4 days. But there are so many beaches!
Which places do you recommend we should visit? (We don't want to dive or surf.) We'd like to spend a day or two at different beaches to relax, and snorkel. I personally would like to stay at the Samara beach to do the ultralight-flying-thing.
Or do you think we shouldn't spend much time here, but go to the coast near Quepos/NP Manuel Antionio instead?
