hi, i want to go to costa rica (tamarindo or montezuma for an extended weekend) from leon, nicaragua.
it's quite a long trip down to the border (6 hours plus waiting) an i am wondering when
does the last bus leave from the costa rican side of the border to liberia?

(as i've heard that transportation from liberia to the beaches is only during the day i guess
i have to spend the night in liberia)

Sorry I am inundating you all with questions, but I have a lot of them!

1) Can I rent a car anywhere other than San Jose?
2) If yes, when will I need a car if I am flying into San Jose and planning on stopping by Corcovado and Dominical for 3 days each? I am ideally looking to rent a car some and take transport for the other times to cut down on costs. Any suggestions on how to make this happen?

I've rented a car from a company that doesn't offer cell phone rentals. I may need one for the 12 days i'm there. Does anyone know of a service that's actually based in the san jose airport or a place that's easy to get to from there? Basically i'll need to both make and receive calls from the US. The cheaper the better but with reliability!

Hi all, I just checked flights again from the JFK, LGA etc, and the prices have gone up by $300 in the past 2 weeks for travel during the Dec/Jan high season. Is there any chance they are going to go back down again, or should I just cut my losses and pay the current price.
Any help from someone who has done this before would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I have 2 weeks during the high season (Dec - Jan). My top priorities are nature and surfing and relaxing (I am a beginning surfer). Right now, after hearing from people I am thinking
3 nights in Corcavodo
3 nights in Dominical (any one heard of the bella vista lodge?)

So what do I do with the rest of the time I have there? I figure I have about 6 more nights to figure out?

We are taking a Windjammer out of Herradura in Oct and would like to know if it is possible to get a one way car rental in Costa Rica. There a 4 of us and would like to pickup a rental car in/near SJO airport and drop off in /near Herradura after doing a couple of days of touring. Think the drop off charge, if any, will be pricey?

I have been searching through the posts and I still am wondering what trip people would reccommend for two people who have about 2 weeks in CR. We are, unfortunately, going during prime season -- the end of Dec - early Jan.

I'm considering Mal Pais but I've heard you need a car top get around because it's really spread out.
What about Dominical?

What other beaches would be good for a 5 day stay? I wont have a car so I'm looking for somewhere that is easy to get around by foot with some moderate nightlife.
