Hi everyone,
I'm finding alot of conflicting info about when (not) to visit CR. My problem is I'm tied to May - July '08 and want to visit CR for some beach, surfing, jungle and also spend 3 weeks in Nicaragua, 3/4 weeks in Honduras and maybe take in Quito - Caracas if time allows. However, is this a bad time to visit and could anyone suggest what direction I should travel in so I can get some respite from the rain.....I live in a country where it rained for 49 days through June & July and I don't think I can cope with more!
Muchos gracias.

May to July is fine in Costa Rica, yes it may have afternoon showers in some areas, nothing you will not welcome for the heat. Same for Nicaragua. I can not comment on Honduras though, I imagine they have a rainy period that peaks though....
To fly to Peru, check Kayak.com, from both San Jose Costa Rica, and Panama City Panama, for sure Panama has flights.
Dont let the weather, stop you, nor the Green season, its very pretty, and the rates are lower, and fewer tourist, especially between May and July 1, before school lets out....Sept can be a tad too wet in some zones...
Tropical Depressions form, at the beginning of Hurricane Season, late June, on both Pacific and Atlantic Caribe, but few hit CA before August...

I'm in Playa Tamarindo, Costa Rica now... it only rains for about an hour at night.... about 5-6ish... and its not bad... at all. I was almost scared off with people saying it would be horrible rain... it isn't at all... it's beautiful and light rain... not a problem!!! :) If you come to Tamarindo may I suggest Villas Macondo... that's where we are right now! :)

We live year round in CR on the Pacific coast. The rainy season typically is sunny in the morning and most of the day and around 3 or 4 it might start clouding up. Even then, you might only get rain a little bit in the evening or during the night.......sometimes not at all. May is just the very beginning of the rainy season, so you should be fine, no matter where you go. The most important thing is to keep an open attitude about your trip.....take what ever comes and don't be ready to complain that it wasn't the nirvana you had in mind. Roll with the punches and what ever other cliche you want to assign to it. if you do that, you will have a great time and then that is when you will experience what Pura Vida really is. Of course I say this sitting here after four 7 year Flor de Cana's with coke and 3 Imperials before that.........but anyone that has been to CR more than once can probably verify or relate to the 7 year Flor de Cana and what I am saying. The bottom line is, Costa Rica is an experience, and it might be different for everyone, but at the heart............it is an experience.
