Saludos,

Thought I posted this earlier but now I don't "see" it, sorry if it's a re-post!!

I am a single mom who will be travelling to CR with my toddler for 10 days in early March. I am fluent in Spanish, have been to CR a few times - spent time already in Montezuma, Manuel Antonio, Tamarindo, Arenal. No fear of travelling with my daughter...but where to exactly???

I'd like to find a place on the beach, with access to nature, not too touristy not too busy (Montezuma a few years OK kind-of level), maybe some boat stuff, horses, and some chance of meeting other people. Low key, but with some easy-ish activities to access. I like secluded places, but not me with the toddler. I'd like to meet other people. I like to hike -- but not far with the toddler. Some short walks are great. Animals are great. My daughter likes swimming pools, I like the beach. I'm not renting a car.

I was planning on flying into Puerto Jimenez and spending a few days in the area then taking boats & buses to the Dominical area. Any other thoughts are much appreciated. (Considered flying from SJO to Bocas too but that seems like an exclusively beach spot. True?)

I hope to pay around $50 or so a night for accomodations.

Gracias cantidad por sus sugerencias!!!

Susan

If you want nature, then Corocvado is your kind of place, you may want to consider Drake Bay, as then you can boat from there to San Pedrillo Entrance, but still have access to the boats north up the coast and to the Rio Sierrpe, they ply the river to the town of Sierppe, then you hop a bus ot taxi to Palmar Sur, and then bus north towards Dominical. Playa Uvita-Bellena is a very off the beaten path low key place as well, and also Ochajal.

You can do that in reverse to, and fly to Palmar Sur, then boat to DB, and fly out of DB to SJ.

The entire coast below Dominical is low key and Montezuma types.

You may also wish to consider the Caribe side, where the surf and currents are more gentle most the time, as the Pacific is pretty rough in most places, and not the best for swimming with a child....

Pt Viejo andthe beaches south are fantastic, you will also have the beach pretty much to yourself during the week, you can both swim naked.

PV offers night action, great cuisine and a good place to met others.

Another place that comes to mind in the Montezuma feel, is Samara or Nosora, for fewer tourist.

But, watch out for Easter Week, the beaches are packed, its the biggest holiday of the year for families to take time off and play beachside.

Here is alink t pics of Drake Bay trip from Palmar Sur-

Hola Susana y Lucia,

Saludos y buen viaje,

hello!
i am also a single-mom travelling with my toddler...we leave for CR in three weeks!
i am wondering what your thoughts are about the anti-malaria drugs for young kids...will you be giving them to your daughter for your trip? i am having conflicting thoughts about it.
also, like somebody mentioned above, i have heard great things about the puerto viejo area for travelling with children. the only warning that has been given to me so far is to watch out for the crazy drivers there.
good luck on your journey...i will look for you here during or after our trip and let you know if i have found out any other good tips for you!
