BTW-
I thought now if you get a ticket while in CR in a Rental Car, you pay the fine when you return the car, and the Agency takes care of the paperwork? I thought last time I rented a car at Mapache in Sept 2006, they told me that, maybe I am mistaken?

I particularly agree that a polite and respectful manner is important. This in theory is particularly difficult if you feel you are both being accused of something you didn't do and being shaken down for cash. Take a deep breath and smile. You'll be quickly on your way. (Even traffic cops live the Pura Vida!)

When I am in trouble with tico cops I pretend I call some one in English, I mention their police car number in English and maybe their names.When the cops ask me what I do in CR I tell them I want to buy a house here but I am not sure anymore.....If I can´t avoid the fine I talk them down,its like being on a market!
