I'm sure that the surf is better at the Pacific, but I'm new at this anyhow and was hoping to have a go at it while visiting the Carib next week. I've noticed that a fair few places rent boards by the day and that there are a few surf camps - any recommendations on a private instructor? Best beach for a beginner - ones to avoid?

Thanks.

Salsa Brava is not for the novice...

Between Playa Chequita and the river on the north edge is a nice easy rolling break ay high tide....

15 minutes walk north of the main beach in Manzanillo is a nice break too...

Any of the afro kids running around with surf boards will be happy to show the basics...

We always send our Guests to a local Guy named Hershal. He is very Good and personable and honest. You can find him at Veronica's VeGe restaurant, which is owned by his mother. Sorry, I do not have his mumber handy.

He also does Guided hikes and kyak tours.

Cheers, Colin.
