Hi there.
I have a question about the public busses in C.R. Have any of you tried them and how are the standards?
I cant figure out when and where they are going, example i would like to go to Playa Grande, neither shuttle bus nor the public bus seems to go there.
Anyone who can give ad advice?
Thanks for helping

Yes, I have ridden the public busses many, many times.
Go to Bus schedule to Tamarindo which is the nearest destination to Playa Grande that I can find.
However, if you will take Ticotim's advice and get a guide book, you will see in Moon's fifth edition:
"The Flamingo-bound buses from San Jose and Santa Cruz stop in Matapalo, where you can walk or catch a taxi."
There is more, but "Get a guide book and get lost."
The busses are fine, except they DO NOT have toilets on them, AND... they seldom stop for a potty break. There are exceptions, such as from San Jose to San Isidro El General. But busses to Nicoya from San Jose drive straight through. Be prepared!

You can take the public bus to Tamarindo and get off in Huacas and take a taxi . You can reach also Playa Grande from Tamarindo by boat, but it's not recommendable with luggage, you have to walk along the beach to reach the cabins and hotels.

its easy and safe but keep a close eye on your bags and carry cash and passport on you!
Like healthyjim says <blockquote>Quote

Also mentioned about your luggage keep passport credit cards camera and money on you, don't put it on overhead racks and when at bus terminal move with your gear never loose an eye on it, enjoy your trip.
All of the above seems to be sound advice. The only suggestion I would add to prevent you from luggage/bag thefts is to keep an eye on the storage area with multiple stops (petrol stations, bus stations, etc). If you put your luggage in the lower level storage area, attempt to sit on that side of the bus (right side usually) and watch carefully that nobody runs up and snags your bag while the bus is stopped!
Peaceful travels!
