Yes, except its lousy advice.
CR pharmacists do not "instantly become doctors" in some kind of cash collecting/info gathering/drug dealing conspiracy as you suggest. They are trained and legally entitled to give medical advice and issue prescriptions and certain drugs over the counter. Most Ticos rely on pharmacists for every day issues. Valium, Viagra and other popular drugs are available over the counter with a pharmacists prescription. All Ticos have a Cedula or ID but since tourists do not, their passport number is required instead. So what?...why would you advise to lie and walk away?
You either really don't need these drugs in the first place or your really do. Either way, get with the system.

I would never trust a CR pharmacist for advice again. I had to get some burn medication for a friend as the doctor was out for the afternoon. When he finally saw a doctor, he was told that the stuff I bought from the pharmacy would have made matters worse.

Have you applied for your driving license yet?....interesting medical procedures involved. I think if you basically flunk EVERY single possible level of medicine- pharmacy- deputy assistant trolley pusher- bit sweeper upper, and there is nowhere left to go you finally hang your head in shame and open up your 'surgery' opposite the DVLC. And get yourself a babe nurse.........

You CANNOT buy Hydrocodone over the counter at any Pharmacia in Costa Rica. The DEA in 2001 negotiated a deal for certain schedules of Narcotics to not be sold over the counter or with a Pharmacists script/consent. You must go to Hospital Mexico or Catolica in San Jose and wait to see a Dr.

I learned several years ago when I took a bottle of 250 Percocets down with me and had the second half of the bottle stolen. Even with a Faxed new script, a report to Policia, NADA, none for me. So After visiting every pharmacia in Costa Rica from Palmar Sur, To Jaco, To San Jose and on North towards Punas Blancos ......none. Not even with an $100 Bill. You can get Oxa-Forte ( Codeine 30mg) and Tramol Long 100Mg which will keep you pain free. And the ONLY Valium you can get is from China not by Roche and it has about 1-2 mg of active ingredient instead of the 10mg it should. I know, I ate about 15 in one evening and was still walking fine. 15 tabs in the USA would drop a horse.

Now they are proud of their Viagra as it is the #1 seller, and Cialis #2 right behind it and slightly cheaper.

The reason the pharmacies dont sell Oxycodone or Oxycontin anymore even under the counter is too many gringos with badges and they loose their license to sell product. Even Ticos working for DEA often try to get Schedule 2 Narcotics from pharmacies. Now since I married a Nica and we often go North, I can get the 40mg Oxycontins for $1.80 per tablet.

And BTW I am not a drug junkie, I have Tarsel Tunnel Syndrome and a semi-blown MCL. And I must Surf when I am at my home in C.R.
There's 'No Fear' for real when you chew a 40, slam a few Pilsen and paddle out, duck diving all the way to the outside.

Peace Bruthas & Sisters !!

Morphius - do you know if oxycontin is still OTC in nicaragua? or did you have a script? i went in November and had an accident there and had to twist their arms to give me a few valiums to help me sleep!

Never thought to ask for Oxy since it was so hard to get that.

I have horrible back problems and am killing my liver taking OTC codiene from Costa RIca (but the minimum tylenol that comes in it is 500 mg!)
