We are visiting CR for our 2nd time, leaving July 23-31 and need help planning our itinerary. We went already to Monteverde, Arenal and Playa Grande, we loved Arenal and would go back but want something different. We would like to hike in a dense, tropical forest and are thinking of Corcovado National park and then to a nearby beach. My husband will want to surf, prefers right breaking waves. The other option is to go to manuel Antonio and then to Chirro National Park. Any suggestions, given the rainy season and all?

Fly from San Jose to Pt Jimenez, spend 3-4 nights in Corcovado. On way out, arrange a water taxi from Playa Matapalo to Golfito, if lucky he can find a board in Matalapo and surf there too. That would be a good right break, as the longest left break in across Osa in Playa Pavones.
Or, fly to Drake Bay, and do Corcovado from there, and then go to Palmue Sur via boat from DB to Sierppe, then taxi to PS, then bus to Dominical.
Dominical area has great surf, as well as the beaches due south.
Manual Antonio is a 1/2 day hike in the entire park at most, and is nothing in comparison to Corcovado, or even Monteverde, and little surd there as well, its a nice developed are with great lodging and cuisine, and pretty beaches. Nothing remote about it though.
You can hike the Cloudbridge in San Gerado at base of Chirrpo, which is 2 hours from Dominical, 30 minutes from San Isidro de General.
There are tons of parks and refuges to hike in CR, just get a Moon guidebook, or LP, and look at the parks regionally, but you 100's of options.

Hi I´m a costarican surfer so i know all my way around i mean AROUND the country, if you are looking for hikes y the DENSE forest, seeing wild life like maybe jaguars and some other cats, and other cool mamals, tranquilo time, cool rainforest hotels to stay or just camp at the beach, and to close the deal one of the best right points in the world, Matapalo, Backwask and Pan Dulce.
This place is defenitly off the beatten path, in that area exists the 2.5% of the biodiversity in the world, you figure how stunning it is.
You will love it and your husband will love it.
