hi, i want to go to costa rica (tamarindo or montezuma for an extended weekend) from leon, nicaragua.
it's quite a long trip down to the border (6 hours plus waiting) an i am wondering when
does the last bus leave from the costa rican side of the border to liberia?
(as i've heard that transportation from liberia to the beaches is only during the day i guess
i have to spend the night in liberia)
thanks,
ita.

Most Likley within a hour of the Border closing, which i think is 8pm, so maybe 9pm? there are always taxis there too, but not too late, and that could be a $50 easily...maybe more...

You might be able to speed up the journey by:
A. Taking a 1st class bus, like TicaBus.
B. If you do the chicken-bus/minibus method: you can get to Granada in about 3-3.5 hours. Then catch a chicken bus to Rivas. From Rivas, you can get a taxi for about $20 to the border - that is really quick. (Or continue with chicken buses...). This should cut your total time down to 5ish hours.
Allow yourself 1-2 hours to cross the border. It's a busy one with longgggg lines!

An option is to spend the night in San Juan del Sur and cross to Costa Rica next morning.
Tica bus would speed up the trip to the border, however, everytime i have been through there, the ticabus usually takes around an hour or more to clear everyone through customs. So it is actually fstaer by yourself.
Last time i did it using all local buses, i left granada at 11 15am and arriv ed in tamarindo at 6pm. All local buses and it cost a bout $5 in total.
