I can take either TACA or Continental airlines for my next trip to Costa Rica
Any thoughts on TACA?

Prefer Continental, but TACA is modern and perfectly fine...not as organized....lost luggage is the main complaint on connections in multiple cities. But what else is new these days?

given a choice, I'd grab Continental (and pay more!)

the last time I flew Taca someone who worked for the airline told me to never fly it again! this was while she was helping me fill out the lost luggage form in Miami - the 3rd Taca representative I tried until I got one who spoke English.

fyi - it took a week for them to track down my luggage... we made an extra stop and deplaned in La Ceiba, but it wasnt tagged right from the start in Roatan (the Taca person ignored my pleas to tag my bag all the way through to my final destination, despite me telling her I knew I had to claim the bag in Miami and go through customs there). They told me they would try to find it and retag it in San Pedro Sula, but apparently not! luckily it was on the way home!

The customer service is crappy on TACA airlines save the headache and fly Continental.

WOW. . .I totally disagree with most of these posts.

I am from NYC and moved to Costa Rica last October (with a few visits here prior to the move) and I have flown TACA each and every time. I go out of my to plan my trips around when I can get the best fares for them. From NYC, the times are great (really early in the morning departure so I get the whole day here once I arrive) and departure from CR is around 6:00 pm ish so I also get at least half of that day as well. AND they are non-stop flights.

Check in tends to take awhile in the states since people tend to travel with lots and lots of luggage (bringing back all the things that are too expensive here to buy) while check in here in CR, while slow, does move (even with less luggage).

They have always been courteous, friendly and polite. And we have never lost any luggage. For our trip moving down here they were having a special . . . 1/2 off for business class. Not that their business class is really anything to write home about, but you do get larger seats, a meal and you can bring an extra piece of luggage. For us, moving down here with 7 checked pieces of luggage and two carry-ons we only had to pay for one extra piece.

As a matter of fact I am flying TACA this Sunday as I head back to the states before I embark on a 5 1/2 week Europe trip. We were looking for one way fares back here in August and everything was a fortune. . .$350, 400, 500+ on numerous airlines. I finally did a round trip search on TACA and somehow found $229 RT per person!!

BARGAIN!!

I've flown TACA several times (never to CR), and have had a great experience. My attendants were helpful and friendly, and everything seemed quite professional. I would go with teh cheaper option, as I liked TACA.
