Don't know the area between Golfito and Dominical very well and wonder if anyone has recommendations for quiet, laid back accomodations/places to stay anywhere along that coast? Would like to rent a house to sleep five as cheaply as possible and still be able to walk to a swimmable beach.....am i dreaming? Anyone prefer one town over another? As we do not have a car, we need to be close enough to be able to buy supplies and catch a bus.
thanks

How about your own private beach and rainforest for $12 a person ($60 a night). Hacienda Barú has two bedroom "cabins" with kitchenettes that sleep five. They own and preserve all of the land from the shore all the way up the mountainside over 800 acres known as Barú National Wildlife Refuge. It's less than a km walk into Dominical for supplies and there is a little tienda/gas station near the entrance.
Request the new cabins which for the price range are luxurious.
Sorry, I was off on the distance. It's actually about a kilometer and a half (one mile) to Dominical.

Also, just south of Dominical, is a some great places on their own beaches. I stayed at Costa Parriaso about 1 KM south, and also Coconut Grove Cabinas has cabins and a house for rent on the beach.
Playa Uvita/Bellena has simple and modest cabinas as well, Tico style...

There are many homes for rent in Ojochal. It's slightly out of walking distance to the beach, but some places will rent out vehicles as well.Diquis del sur have cabins for rent with vehicles available. Rancho soluna rent out alot of homes for people in Ojochal, some at really decent prices. There are three very different beaches closeby. Tortuga, Ventanas, and Ballena are really nice and see little traffic.

I think the spot you're looking for may be a litle further down the road. Rent a house in Matapalo de Osa, stop in Puerto Jimenez on your way to stock up on supplies. You can get a great house there, right in front of the beach, for $200 a night. That comes out pretty cheap for 5 people I Think.

Good point....depends on what you want. You can rent a house with a pool for $100 or less in Ojochal, and rent a vehicle for around $50. A house right on the beach is hard to argue with.

Excellent locations, and a good variety of inexpensive places to stay, plus a variety of restaurants, at Playa Uvita, next to the national park. Still a bit out of the way, but very worth it.

I like going to Pinuela beach for the sunset. It's between Ventanas and Ballena. You can drive right up to the beach, have a picnic, fire, and it's a small bay so swimming is a bit safer. Nice to have your ride close by for security and access to quick snacks and cold "beverages"

I plan on visiting the Dominical and Uvita areas soon.
I am curious about what to do with the rental while on the beach.
First, can you drive on the beach? I ask, because in Texas, you can drive on some beaches, of course at responsible speeds.
If you can't drive on the beach, generally how far is the road to the beach? Will the car be mostly beyond eyesight?
I have nothing against walking, but I am worried about the security of the rental, and just having to haul stuff.
Thanks in Advance.
Steve.
