I am looking for a place to stay on Drake's Bay & saw that there were alot of places. I am thinking of Poor Man's Paradise. We are going end of Jan. Has anyone stayed along this area or taken the tour from this area into Corcovada?

Poormans Paradise in nice, but tads further from the trail heads and the village.

I liked Jinetes De Osa Lodge, same prices, more rustic and charming, and is at end of beach towards to the park. Its a 3 hour hike minimum to San Pedrillo, most the lodges offer a boat and guide to the canopy leaving at 6am.

Jintetes de Osa lodge has packages as well, where you pick a activitiy for each day, as well as they have a PADI diving and dive master for Isla Cano, like Poormans, caters to the Dive set....

check out Mirador lodge-cheap, nice, great organic food, run by a nice Tico family.

are these places ones to reserve before hand around this time, Jan-March? If so how far in advance?

are the trails clear to get from beach to beach? and to get to park entry points? Is it safe for solo male traveler?

The trails from DB area to other lodges are clearly marked and fairly easy and nice. The trail all the way to San Pedrillo ranger station, can be done solo, the lodges will give you maps, or you can take a boat in the mornings.

Safe for a male? In regards to snakes, maybe not, mugging, yes :)

Early Jan I would have a reservation, and spring break. You do not want to just show up, as its is limiting in its capacity, all over in Corcovado area. Phone ahead from San Jose.
