I've rented a car from a company that doesn't offer cell phone rentals. I may need one for the 12 days i'm there. Does anyone know of a service that's actually based in the san jose airport or a place that's easy to get to from there? Basically i'll need to both make and receive calls from the US. The cheaper the better but with reliability!

Good luck! I have wasted so many hours trying the same thing. A satellite phone is the best option for what you want, but VERY expensive. The cell phones I have rented in CR work fine in certain places, but most of the places I went, there was NO service...

Thats not a vacation if you are keeping a cell phone with you....

Roaming charges will kill ya if the calls are North America-
