Bus San José to Puerto Jimenez

Hola,
I will arrive in San Jose on June 2nd. The day after (june 3rd ;)) I need to travel to Puerto Jimenez on Osa Peninsula. I know that there are buses leaving from Atlantivo Norte at 6 am (!) and 12. I would like to take one of those. Rather the early one because it takes 10hrs. But what I do not know is how I get that ticket. Call them (my spanish is weak)? Just go there as early as possible? And how early might that be, maybe even the day before? Is it a busy line?

Normally I like to just go and try my luck when travelling but since I need to stick to that date I want to make sure I get on that bus.

Hope anyone can tell me how to do best.

You can not get bus tickets early via phone, you have to go there and buy them.

There is a bus that leaves at 8AM and takes 8 hours. I am not sure what bus station you are referring too either.

Obviously he is speaking of of Atlántico Norte, but was one letter off. It can be confusing if you don't know any Spanish. I have traveled and used this station many times, just get there and hour before the bus is scheduled to leave. The ticket offices are inside and spread through the terminal. Any taxi driver will know where it is located. Looking further, I am not sure if Atlántico Norte is the terminal you need. Take a cab, the driver will know.

This is what we did in 2015 (and I am pretty sure the bus still goes at 8 am and noon). We just went to the ticket office an hour before the bus left. We took the bus from Alajuela (where the airport is) to San Jose and then walked but a taxi works too of course.

We arrived late (10 pm) and took a taxi from the airport to the Cala Inn in Alajuela. The taxi had a meter and it was $5. The next morning it was a very short walk to the bus for San Jose, CRC 555 and 30-45 minutes. The bus dropped us off at the Tuasa bus terminal (Calle 12 and Avenida 2). From there it was a 10 minute walk up Calle 12 (but Calle 14 works too) to the San Carlos bus terminal on Avenida 9. San Carlos is also called Atlantico Norte. The Blanco Lobo ticket office is hidden in the back, up one flight of stairs. Just ask. There are two daily buses to Puerto Jimenez, one at 8 am and one at noon. Cost : $14. The bus did not take the inland road but the coastal road (someone told us the inland road was closed) and took 7.5 hours including one short bathroom stop and one 20 minute stop so we could get a bite to eat.

#2- I know what bus station he is referring too, been there many times, my point was, that its not the one he needs to get a bus to Pt Jimenez.

Obviously, you don't either, and offer no advice as usual.

Just to be clear: as far as I know Blanco Lobo buses to Puerto Jimenez do leave from the Atlantico Norte terminal (also called San Carlos). See more details in my post #4.

This is also what my research resulted in so far. But I will certsinly double-check with the hostel in SJO or some taxi drivets.
I got the whole thursday to organise.

I had a similar dilemma last week, I arrived at the Atlantico Norte bus station at 5:30 am for the supposed 6:00 am bus to Puerto Jimenez, only to find the bus station not open and that the bus did not leave until much later. There is a lot of confusing information on the Internet regarding the schedule of this bus, but I believe the 8:00 am departure time is correct one. I had previously tried to call Lobo Blanco to confirm, but as with trying to use their website it was futile because no one would answer the phone. I ended up getting a ride to the Tracopa station, taking the 6:30am bus to Golfito, and a short water taxi to Puerto Jimenez. This route is slightly more expensive than a direct bus from San Jose by about $6 USD because of the water taxi, but you will arrive slightly sooner and Tracopa has a website that works http://www.tracopacr.com/
