Hello everyone!!!

This will be my first time traveling out the country by myself. I am considering taking a birthday trip to Costa Rica at the end of September for 6 days.

Does anyone know of any great places to stay while I am there? I prefer mostly a resort feel for my stay but I also want to be close to most attractions and locals.

Thanks in advance!

September is rainy season in Costa Rica but the Caribbean coast gets some of its best weather that month. So that is where I would go. Also, because it is a beautiful laid-back area. If you have 6 full days I would spend two nights in Cahuita. Cahuita has an amazing National Park (nice beaches, rainforest trails and lots of wildlife). Then take a short bus ride to one of the beaches south of Puerto Viejo. Great wild natural beaches bordered by rainforest. Lots of wildlife there too. The last day go rafting on the Rio Pacuare. The tour company will pick you up in Puerto Viejo, take you rafting and drop you off in San Jose.
The Caribbean coast does not have actual resorts but some very nice hotels and lodges that are more in harmony with nature and local culture. What is your budget (how much per night)?

Thank you! That was very informative. My budget nightly is $200 or less. I've also considered Mexico, Bali and Greek....what do you think of those locations?

Well, you could go to Cahuita, but I don't think you're going to find the sort of "resort feel" lodging there that you want. Most all the lodgings there are mid range or more cheap end.

if going in September, and you can stand the long flights, go for Bali. Find a resort around Ubud there, and you can experience pure luxury plus exotic sights.

You only have 6 days, Bali and Greece are too for, the Mayan Coast is not bad but have to get down to Mahahual to get away from the crap and by the ocean but they do have lots of resorts in the PDC area and more.

Your nightly budget is excellent, get a nice lodge place in the Cahuita area or south of Puerto Viejo, you can get a great place for 80-100us a night, walk or rent a bike to get around. No resorts but incredible beaches, jungles, wildlife, ocean, small fun towns etc.

You could easily do 3 nights Cahuita and 3 south of PV,

Consider rafting the Pacuare River on you last day and back to Alajuela.

Hotels/lodges:

Cahuita:

Puerto Viejo, Cocles, Punta Uva, Manzanillo:

I have heard good things about:
Almonds and Corals
Korrigan Lodge
Caribe Town
Geckoes Lodge

I have not been to Bali and to Mexico only once for a week. I used to love the Greek Islands (but I never went island hopping which would have been even better) but it is a long time ago. But Bali and Greece do seem too far to me as well with only 6 days.
