subject says it all - what's the preference in CR?
shoot... i meant to say automatic vs. stick/standard. sorry! Anyway - i'm would imagine for passing power and steep inclines it's better to have a stick.... but maybe so much shifting around potholes and such would make the automatic a better ride.
anyone have an overwhelming preference?
Thanks again!

I prefer stick, I you are driving through San Jose automatic, if not it doesn't make any difference
I was always a stick fan until I got to CR. Once you've looped your way through the mountains and valleys stuck behind the inevitable line of trucks and Coca-Cola lorries a few times you'll be cursing the clutch. I also used to think that Autos couldn't handle real off road conditions but thats just not true of todays shifts.
Like BOOMER1 says the modern transmissions and traction control systems will get an auto almost anywhere a lockin manual can go. If you know how to use it somehow the stick seems more fun, but as far as performance and abilities there's no difference.

I prefer stick in the mountains, gives better passing dynamics, but that's just me as I've been driving sticks for all my life and have no trouble wiggling it up and down, but I guess auto will do just fine. A stick is not a must in CR
automatics are generally more expensive to rent, although with a new car either one will have enough power. it may depend on where you are driving as well.

I prefer a stick, more power for passing in the mountains, 75% of CR is mountains....
They are getting harder to book, thanks to lame Americans spoiled by automatic transmissions, that now make up the vast majority of renters, a decade ago is more EU people, who drive sticks...
A good 4x4 is a Hyundai Vitara, it has a LOW mode 4x4, for the real muck...
