My pair of Merrell hiking boots with goretex inside + goretex socks did a good job when hiking up Chirripo. Apart from that, a pair of flip flops for the beach and old trainers for everything else were fine.

Does no one use Keen? I found them much more comfortable than about anything else, except barefoot.

Sorry, Ticotim, but Keens are over $100, even in CR... They sell them right there on Avenida Central - $117 US..

When the small bungies' clamp that are used as laces went bad, I contacted Keen, and they sent me new laces with clamps FREE....

I love Keens as well and bought my pair on sale for about $80.

Do you guys find that Keens are too hot anywhere? I just bought a pair and am nervous that my feet are going to be completely sweaty. Though, I guess they'd be sweaty in whatever shoe I choose, so might as well have my feet protected while I'm at it! Right?

I don't think Keens are any hotter than anything else; however, that reminds me of the one complaint I have about them.

They get pretty smelly, so they need the liners removed and washed frequently. But if you use them much, they get wet and need washing anyway.

I wear mine most of the time, and they save a lot of socks. Some people wear socks with them, but not me!

I bought a pair of Keen Venice sandals to wear while travelling through NZ, Australia, Thailand and Korea. After the first wear I hated them: my feet were sweating after 6 hours in coolish temperatures (15Cish) and my toes sore from the stiff toe box. Thankfully the store I bought it from were willing to refund their total cost as they were expensive ($250NZ) -- I went out and bought a pair of Chacos which I love.
