Thanks for the money advice already posted. I will have some 20s with me. But, for emergency purposes, I carry several hundred in a leather money belt that holds up my pants - I also have the 'traveler's one as a decoy. Recently the US started producing 'monopoly' money $100 bills - big letters/blue color. Does anyone know if these are now circulating down there or if I should request older bills to avoid people thinking they are fakes? If you haven't seen a new one yet - they DO NOT look like…
I'm leaving on the ferry for Punta Gorda tomorrow (Wed)to meet the noon bus to Belize City. I have to be at the airport at 11:30am Saturday. I was think of getting off the bus at either placencia or Dangriga, two completely different options. Hopkins looks nice but i dont want to have to connect in my short time frame. I'll be in Caye Caulker for three days next week with my girlfriend, so i'm already hitting a Caye. I need a convenient place that isn't belize city to spend a couple days…
Hey everyone, I have roughly 1 week until I take my 2 week honeymoon with my fiance. I've been planning a bit, and wanted to see what your thoughts were on how much we were planning on traveling. My fiance and I enjoy relaxing, but we also would like to see as much Belize has to offer as possible.
We have a "rough" itinerary but I just thought I'd list the places we are planning on seeing, and if you all thought that would be too much travel or if it was doable in two weeks. We're looking for…
I am a certified nurse-midwife and my husband is a chef. We want to move to Belize with our children. I would like to teach childbirth classes, doulas, and maybe work/volunteer at local hospitals/clinics to provide care to women. I have so many questions as we begin this awesome journey. My husband is a Mexican citizen. He was deported from the US for working without permission several years ago. How is this going to affect his ability to receive a visa in Belize? Where do we start our…
Hey Gang - I'm traveling alone from San Ignacio, Belize to Tikal in a few weeks and am having a hard time finding shared transport to tag along with.
I didn't want to buy an overnight tour to Tikal since I'm creating my own agenda when I get there and I assumed finding shared transport would be fairly easy. So far...wrong. None of the companies I've contacted have transportation available on those days.
Specifically, I'm looking to travel from San Ignacio to Tikal the morning of Wed 5/28. Then…
I was wondering if anybody has ever been to IZE Blue Creek Ecolodge? I read about it in the Belize Lonely Planet and they do have a web site but other than that, we can't really find any information online. I can't really find any reviews. If anyone has any comments, feedback, or even pictures of the place, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Hi Guys,
A small group of us backpackers will be relegated to Belize City for 2 of our10 days in the country due to the departure and arrival of three travel companions. It will be early-mid August. We're already planning to head to San Ignacio, Caye Caulker, and Placencia afterwards. We aren't too keen about spending much time in BC so any suggestions/advice about day trips or a nearby locale to hangout would be greatly appreciated, bearing in mind that we need to be in relative vicinity of…
Hi All... just read in LP Central America on a shoestring that Belize blocks skype calls. Can anyone tell me if that is true? And if so can you tell me a cheap alternative for internet calling from Belize?
thanks
D
This may be a stupid question, but I have been going through our guidebook and am trying to budget how much money my fiance and I will have for our honeymoon. In Costa Rica hostel's charged per person, which wasn't a big deal because we were sleeping in a communal room and it was fairly cheap. In Belize do they charge per room or per person? For instance, if I were to rent a cabin for a few days would I be charged for just the cabin, or would they tack on an extra fee because my fiance would…
On this trip to Belize, I'd actually like to spend a couple of nights in Belize City. Everyone's idea of a good hotel is different, of course. I'd very much appreciate recommendations from people who have had good experiences in the past year or so at Belize City hotels which meet or come close to all of the following criteria:
Walking distance of the main tourist sites
Rooms clean, quiet, and air conditioned
US$50 to USD$80 per night for one person
Close to a couple of decent restaurants…
