My friend and I want to go to Belize/Guatemala between dec 26 and jan 3rd, and we're on a tight budget. We'll be in Mexico before then so we're considering renting a car and going down to Belize from Chetumal (flying over is way expensive). Is driving around (especially through the borders) dangerous? We're going to be arriving at the Belize City International Airport at 3:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve. We're debating whether it is practical to try and catch the water taxi to Caye Caulker that day, or just to stay at the Radisson in Belize City (since we have credit card points to use) and head out to CC the next morning.

I'm planning to visit Belize during the busy holiday season (Dec. 26 to Jan 3). I'm a well traveled female in my late 20's traveling by myself. I will be getting into Belize City at about Noon on a Thursday. Will I have any trouble getting a bus to San Ignacio at that time? It seems that people say they run every half hour or so. How far is the airport from the bus terminal? Can you get off in San Ignacio or does it stop in Santa Elena and then you walk over?

My husband and I are planning on visiting Belize for 7 days at end of December. I am having a really hard time tossing between staying at an island location or jungle location.

We both love snorkeling and hiking in the jungle.. especially swimming in fresh water holes. : )

Any suggestions?
