We are leaving this month and this trip will be a little different for us as after we arrive, two of our older friends will travel with us for 9 days…..we will be their tour guides which will be great, but they present some mobility issues. Our goal is to have their portion of the trip completely planned. My wife and I will be in Ambergris Caye 4 days before our friends arrive. We found a hotel for our first night and we will look for 1 nights housing for our friends’ arrival a few days…
My boyfriend and I are going to Belize for 15 days at the end of February/ start of March. We are likely going to rent a car for most, if not all the time to increase our flexibility. Any suggestions on the best companies to rent from?
We both have valid US driver's licenses. Is this sufficient, or should we get one of the international licenses that a lot of countries require.
Thanks!
Hello again. We have booked our jungle lodge place (although I might be regretting Cave's Branch after dealing with their accounting department!) and have now decided to stay on the mainland instead of boating it to Tobacco Caye or Glover's Reef. Does anyone have any thoughts about best accommodation in Hopkins. I prefer not to be TOO close to the center of town, and Jungle Jeannie's sounds nice, but is twice the price of Tipple Tees. Thoughts?
Hello!
Me and my friend are planning to make a 3 week trip through Belize.
We need some help before we decide where to go.
1.Would like to do some jungle trekking, staying two or three days in some village with local people. Where can we find something similar?

Which Maya ruin is the best choice to see? After 1st day in Belize city, we would make a trip to see one of those. The best choice for us would be jungle trekking and ruins together....which do you advice?

Does anyone have any information about "A Piece of Ground" in Punta Gorda?

The website doesn't include rates and the email I sent bounced back.
I want to start by thanking everyone who contributes to this thread and who offered up so many pieces of information. In particular I want to thank LanSluder, Hopefulist, Misterbee, Greggo, and other frequent posters.
Equipment: Just a few highlights and things I tried to research before we left.
We wanted to pack light so we each carried an Osprey backpack. I had a Farpoint 55 which has a very convenient zip off day pack. My wife carried a FlapJill. These packs were easy to carry on planes…
I have an 3-4 year old Sony Ericsson unlocked phone from the U.S. that I have used in Italy and Spain with a local simm card that I was able to purchase there with prepaid minutes.
Will I be able to do the same thing in Belize? I had read some posts that seemed to say it was possible, but my Lonely Planet book said something about only European and Austrailian phones working there so I wasn't sure.
Appreciate any info, thanks so much!
I posted a report on our trip to Guatemala over Christmas on the Guatemala board yesterday. Here's the Belize part of the same trip. As I mentioned before, so I don't waste anyone's time we weren't doing this on a shoe string - mid range I would say, though I'll get on to Chan Chich in a bit.
We entered Belize by land from Guatemala on the road that goes to Flores/San Ignacio. Crossing the border was very easy. As we had to pick up a charter flight from the Central Farm airstrip outside San…
Hi there,
I need some advice and info on travel times for an adventurous, young Canadian couple:
1 - We are staying in Caye Caulker and then heading to Puerto Morellos. We've been sifting through travel times and costs, and with the Belize Exit Tax, taking the Water Taxi to Chetumel and a bus to Playa del Carmen seems the best. Thoughts?
2 - After a week in Morellos we are heading back into Belize and have our sights set on Tikal. We heard there is a night ADO bus that goes by about 11:30pm…
Hi Everybody! My husband are gearing up to spend 10 days in Belize mid-February. We spent a few years backpacking around the world, so we are pretty seasoned budget travelers. We are hoping to spend about half of our time inland (jungle, cave tours, ruins, etc.) and half of our time on the coast doing water type activities. We aren't much for just sitting around. A few questions that I could use some advice on:

We went to Tikal a few years ago when backpacking through Guatemala. Will we…
