It seems fairly easy to get to San Ignacio by bus, so I'd prefer to not rent a car unless I really need to. While looking at the different places to stay in San Ignacio, I'm wondering, how do you actually get there (for example Chaa Creek River Camp or Five Sisters) from SI? Chaa Creek looks amazing, but the tours seem very pricey. Is it possible to use the independent tour companies - if so, how do you get from your lodge at Chaa Creek back and forth to the tour companies? Any advice?

Hi!

I am planning to visit Mexican Yucatan landing in Cancun, then down to Chichen Itza, Tulum, Chtumal to Flores to visit Tikal and finally chill out & dive in Placencia and Caye Caulker.

Since I only have 15 days, to save time, I would like to see if there is a flight connecting Belize City to Cancun.

So far I could not find reliable and updated information...any advise?

Thanks!
Sam

My wife and I travelled to Placencia and stayed for five days.

Placencia is a 16 mile long peninsula along Belize’s southern coast. Near the tip of the peninsula is Placencia village, a fishing village since the time of the Maya. Aside from the beach, the main attraction in Placencia Village is the main “street”, cited in the Guinness Book of World Records as “the world’s most narrow street”. The street is about 24” wide and runs through the town for about a mile. The beach is crescent shaped…

Caye Caulker is smaller and considerable slower and more “tranquillo” than San Pedro on Ambergris Caye, we spent a little over a week on this island. TropicAir to Caye Caulker from the International airport is $72.00usd taxes and from the Municipal airport $41.50tax one way and takes less than 15 minutes. The ferry from Belize City or Ambergris Caye was $10.00usd one way and $17.50usd round trip. Travel time from Belize City on the ferry is about 75 minutes,(if the sea is calm) and from…

My wife and I just returned from 6 weeks in Belize visiting the mainland and the two main islands. We appreciate some amenities and we stay in “middle range” housing. When we travel, we reserve the first’s night stay and then “wing it”. We will submit a trip report for each main segment.

Entering Belize through customs was quick and easy. At customs, they give you the bottom half of your entry forms that you will retain until you turn it back in when you leave.

We flew TropicAir,($72.00usd…

Tipping

I am traveling to Belize for the first time and have chosen to stay at some resorts. We have arrangements to be picked up from the airport and back. We also have made arrangements for tours.

Who expects a tip? and how much?
Will the locals be respectful or can they be pushy to receive a tip?

or, Is it normally arranged on our last day where we can specify who gets what?

Should I contact the resort for specifics?
I've heard some places try to swindle you for what they can get away with. I want to…

I'm just looking to fly cancun to bze and I noticed Maya air flies the route but their website doesn't have any way to book it. Did a quick search on the forum and couldn't find anything previous. Any ideas as to prices or number of flights per day?

If I don't get any response, I'll email Maya and ask them.

Thanks in advance.

We are looking for flights for Christmas 2012 from Edmonton, Alberta to Belize City. The connections seem terrible with high prices (averaging about $1,800 per person). We have found some cheaper flights if we overnight on American Airlines in Vegas, but would prefer to have more direct routing if possible. We have been given conflicting stories from Continental (one agent said they are releasing the cheaper seats not until May or so, another agent told us the cheap seats are all sold out)…

Hi TTF

Planning a 5-7 day trip in a couple days to Belize. I've a friend going there for work so should have a place to crash in Belize city for a few days and wanted to do some day trips from there. I.e. Lamanai, Crooked Tree, maybe the baboon sanctuary or Nohoch caves...So any advice on affordable tour companies or possibly guesthouses that arrange tours for groups of solo travelers out of belize city?

Also thinking i'll go to Caye Caulker for a couple days and want to see the Atolls or an…
