I'm hoping to go whale shark snorkelling in Placencia on the first day of the whale shark season in April (ie 2 days before the full moon) as this is the only day we can fit it into our itinerary. However I've received a lot of mixed information on our likelihood of seeing the whale sharks that day. Whilst some sites say that you can see them before and after the full moon, others say its only after the full moon. I was just wondering whether anybody has been on the trip before the full moon and had successful sightings as we want to weigh up whether its worth us going out of our way to do it that day.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Researchers have only been collecting data for the past 10 yrs, but so far, they say best times to see them is within 3 days either side of the full moon.

I think you know your chances if you don't go.
