Hi all,
I recently had $70 US taken from my room at Lorraine's Guest House. Since the place is family run, I thought it would be safer to keep my money in the room versus a boat full of strangers (I signed up for a half day snorkelling trip). When I confronted the man of the house, he called one of the room-cleaning staff to come and speak with me. She starting the conversation by explaining to me that she didn't tamper in the exact place the money was stolen. Ironically, I never mentioned to the man of the house or her where the money was stolen. I just told them the money was stolen from the room. Furthermore, the room I stayed in was completely infested with bedbugs and didn't make for a good night of sleeping.
On the positive side, the snorkelling trip was incredible. We saw about 100 stingrays within 15 minutes in less than 6 feet of water. The reef is incredible.
I already contacted Lonely Planet to remove Lorraine's from any future guidebooks.

spend the extra money and stay at a nicer place. The north of the island is more crowded but seems to be more active at night. It was a beautiful place to stay. I wish I had an extra day to snokel with the sharks. The rays were incredible. You need a full day of snokelling to get to the sharks.
