Thank you everyone for their posts to Belize. It made my trip planning so much easier and I incorporated many pieces of advice. My wife and I (50ish) have just returned from a 2 week trip. We flew to Belize city, and took the ferry to Caye Caulker, where we stayed at Oasi, a wonderful spot with about 6 units, mid priced ($75 US), clean and comfortable. They provide bicycles to peddal around the small caye. Went snorkeling wiht Mario tours. Best snorkel trip ever! They do an excellent job. We flew from Caye Caulker to Flores, Guatemala to visit Tikal, stayed at the Tikal Inn, and booked a private tour with Roxy Ortiz as recommended in this forum.( thanks Hopefulist, I told her she owes you a free tour) Well worth the $20 per person we payed. Roxy's knowledge and passion is evident throughout the sunset tour we took, and she keeps you away from all the crowds as well. Tikal is simply amazing, and staying overnight allowed us time to explore on our own as well. We made our way to the border and crossed back to Belize and went to San Ignacio. Stayed at Marthas ($60) clean and comfortable, and did the Pacz tours ATM tour the next day. After the ATM tour we were picked up for transport to Black Rock Lodge. Simply amazing property. lots to do, canoeing, hiking, birding, tubing, or simply lounge in your hammock. Clean, comfortable, quiet, except for the birds and cicadas! From Black Rock we used their service to drive us to Placencia where we stayed at the Miramar Appt.s ($109 per night) We had a studio on the beach and it was clean, quiet , spacious, and within walkiing distance to grocery, fruit stands, restaurants. The beach in front of Miramar is by far the best beach in Placencia village. It was a great place to go and unwind for the remainder of our trip. We flew direct from Placencia airport to Belize International for our return home, so convenient!
