Are the roads in good condition or should a person rent a 4*4 SUV through Crystal Auto Rentals?

The road is fine in a 2wd car. It is paved except for 3 fairly short dirt areas. Are you sure you would want to rent a car rather than use a shuttle? Can you find Guatemala insurance? We used a private shuttle and it was only $30.00 usd.

cd - Did you arrange your transportation at the border or arrange in advance through a provider?

Thirty bucks to Tikal is quite a deal (assuming that's not per person).

It was per person.

They picked us up at the hotel in San Ignacio and drove us to the border. At the border he walked us through customs and helped us exchange money. He did save us money at the currency exchange....the first group was offering us too low of an exchange rate and he shopped around until he found us a much better rate. We then were transported to Flores in a private air conditioned van and drove us around until we found a hotel the we liked.

We went through a tour company located in the Flava restaurant.

Then that's as much or more as a Guatemala taxi would charge, but you did have the advantage of being picked up in San Ignacio.

Hi,

Is the $50/60 taxi ride a per person cost or for the whole ride? I'm going to Tikal from San Ignacio with my boyfriend in September and I'm trying to price compare self-org tour vs packaged tour.

Thanks!
