I have looked online and in a couple of books regarding river trips from San Ignacio. I have found canoe and rafting trips, but we have an older person in our group with some mobility issues......he can climb into and out of a larger boat, but a canoe could pose problems. Are there any motorized cruises on one of the rivers where he could enjoy a "jungle" cruise or are the rivers too shallow?

I saw a cruise to Lamanai but it started in Belize City....and looked like more of a walk to the site than he might handle.

Hi,
I took the Lamanal cruise from Orange Walk.
I also have problems with getting into small boats, but had no problem there.
One boat tour operator is much better than the other.
I stayed at the Orchid Palace (?) and they helped me get the right boat.
I also did not go for the full tour but did see quite enough.

When you say that you saw "a cruise to Lamanai but it started in Belize City", it probably meant that a bus went from BC to Orange Walk where the passengers boarded the boat. Those boats have motors.

I don't know of any motorized boats tours from San Ignacio.

There are motorized boat tours (including on pontoon boats) on the Belize River near Belize City and Bermudian Landing. Also, as noted the boats that go up the New River to Lamanai from Orange Walk are motorized and generally are accessible for most people. There is quite a bit of walking at Lamanai, but your friend wouldn't have to take the whole tour.

Don't think you're going there, but there also are motorized boat trips on the Mojo River in Toledo District.
