Hello,
I'd would like to ask about Red Bank village / scarlet macaw viewing. I'll be traveling from Livingston in early January and one possibility is to go through Belize. I read a short article about Red Land in Belize LP but its unclear for me, from which place its best to start the tour, since its mentioned in the guidebook in a chapter about Punta Gorda but it looks like its closer to Placencia. Would you know which place is better to take the trip to Red Land?
I also found out there was a brutal murder about a year ago in the village, anyone would know if this is kinda sorted out among the locals? I'd guess there could be potentially a tension in such a small place like Red Bank after the murder.

Thanks,
David.

Shortly after the murder, another resident of the village was arrested and charged with murder. No motive was given in media reports.

As a tourist, you should be quite safe there, however use common sense when it come to personal safety.

Here is a link to an excellent map of Belize. If you are traveling by road, Placencia and Hopkins are about the same distance to Red Bank and you can arrange a tour to see the Macaws from either village. If you can coordinate with the Hokey Pokey water taxi from Placencia to Mango Creek and by road to Red Bank, then Placencia is closer. If the Macaws are an important attraction for you, you should check to make sure that they are there feeding in January when you are visiting. The Macaws don't keep a precise schedule.
