Hi,

I am a photographer going to Belize. Though I will be there for a vacation and not for work, being who I am, I will most certainly get my gear out... I am interested in knowing what places people recommend photography wise. I mostly enjoy taking portraits of people in their environment, but picturesque cities and beaches are great as well. I appreciate any recommendation. :)

Thank you! :)

You should look at Tony Rath's collections of Belize photos. Start at http://www.belizenet.com/ He's a well-known photographer based in Dangriga. That will give you an idea of the range of things he and others are shooting in Belize.

There are so many places and so much to see and photograph- you may want to try to get a combination of the Caribbean Island, jungle, towns and villages such as San Ignaciao, Belize City and Hopkins and then also do some of the ruins. I think Lan's advice is very good.

I would add that there are only so many tropical beaches and caye photos I can stomach, so I would encourage you to also look at urban areas such as Belize City. Belize City is funky, rickety, run down, poverty-ridden and (sometimes) dangerous, but it's a great place to shoot.
