Hello!

My partner and i are traveling through Mexico at the moment, we are currently in Puerto Escondido and are planning to leave to San Cristobal tomorrow. Our questions about further travel are:

We are planning to come back to Mexico in the near future and are on a strict budget and timeline- is it worth us going to the Yucatan coast now to Tulum?

Is Belize worth going to when we plan on going to Honduras islands to do diving/snorkelling?

Should we cross the border to Guatemala from Palenque to Flores and skip that side of the coast?

I put much emphasis on the fact that we are on a pretty tight budget! We also don't want to 'rush' but are feeling a bit overwhelmed with how much we want to do in the next couple of weeks!

Skip Belize and go to Utlia. Honduras is cheaper and the food is better.

Why let yourself "feel overwhelmed" when you're on vacation? I've been traveling overseas for going on 45 years. Invariably I feel better trimming down an overly ambitious itinerary, skipping a stop or two, and spending fewer days on the road. In the early years, when I often was on a very strict budget, that presented the added benefit of allowing me to transfer some shekels from the bus fare budget to the dining, drinking, or entertainment budget.

That said, Belize is more than "worth it". However, IMHO, time spent at a tourist island off the coast of Belize doesn't allow one to see very much of what really makes Belize worthwhile.

Haha "overwhelmed' in the best possible way gringodavid! So much to see and do!

We are both pretty uninterested in tourist traps, so i think we may just take the 'see less, go slower' option and save our pennies. Hopefully we can explore the east coast of Mexico and into Belize on another adventure!

I sort of agree with2 but coastal Belize is a jumping off point for fabulous diving. inland belize is very good for culture, hiking, mtns and jungly stuff.
