Hello,

I will be traveling to San Ignacio tomorrow and am looking for a recommendation on a place to stay. I am on a mediocre budget, am 30 years old, traveling alone and would like to meet people. I have not heard of any solid Hostal ideas, and was wondering if anyone had suggestions.

Also, while, I am posting, what are the must see and do's in San Ignacio.

Thanks

Paul

Tropicool was clean, cheap and right in the middle of town.

Actun Tunichal Muknal cave is one of the most amazing things you could do. Plenty of Mayan sites around. Caricol was worth going to.

I spent 2 nights in the Tropicool Hotel. Don't expect anything fancy. I had a single room - pretty basic - bed, chair, table, light, ceiling fan, towel, sheets and shared bathroom. It was cheap (about BZ$25.00/night) and centrally located. San Ignacio is fairly safe when walking around at night.

The Hi-Et is the backpacker place in San Ignacio -- I think the have dorm beds.

I think there are a couple other hostels in the area -- I heard it from another person and have no details. It's called Bella's Backpackers. J&R's backpackers is also in that bracket.

In San Ignacio, you can walk to Cahal Pech, a Mayan site. Xunantunich is a short bus ride away. For a cave trip, see one of the tour companies in SI.
