Hi everyone,
I'm a solo female travelling to Belize in a few days time. I'll probably spend a week or two travelling the country. Any suggestions on what I should do or see.? I've no interest in diving. I am interested in hiking and culture. I'll be using buses to get around.

Many thanks.

Hello again! I have a similar comment for this thread as for your Guatemala version:
If you don't have one already, imo you should buy a guidebook and devour it. They have good historical and cultural background sections and suggested itineraries in addition to travel, food, and lodging specifics. Even an older version from the library would help. The usual tourist track is Cayo District in the west for hiking and Maya sites, then a beachy spot; Placencia, Hopkins Village, Caye Caulker, and Ambergris Caye are popular. When you have a better idea of what you’re wanting, come back with more specific questions and we can help you better. In the mean time, my photos with blog, travelogue, and review links on the main page of each collection are below in case you're interested - all my recommendations are embedded there.
Happy trails!

Buy a guide book. Lonely Planet or Rough Guide for Belize both a quite good. If you have any specific questions once you've gotten into the guide book, you're likely to find people on this forum who will try to assist.

Thanks for the replies.

I have an LP for Central America and Belize. However, I find every place sounds visitable which is why I came here looking for recommendations. I can't visit every single place so I was hoping for people to point out the highlights or must sees.

I wasn't there for long, and was focused on diving, but also enjoyed the ATM caving in San Ignacio. I didn't get time for any of the ruins, but they're certainly worth a look as well. Caye Caulker has other fun stuff besides diving and is a nice place to chill out for a bit.

Hi,
Why don't you start out with a trip to the San Ignacio area. Just get a taxi from the airport to the bus station ($25us) and you are off. Spend a few nights doing things around San Ignacio. They have some good tour operations on Burns Avenue. Get yourself the short distance to the border and take a shuttle or taxi to see the wonders of the Maya ruins at Tikal. Spend a night or two in the park. When you are done there, take the early 6am bus all the way back to Belize City for only $25 and then take one of the water taxis to Caye Caulker. After a few days on Caye Caulker you will see how much time you have left for places like the ruins at Lamanai, Tobacco Caye or the beaches of Hopkins or Placencia. In all of these areas, accommodations can be found relatively inexpensively. Have a good time!

Spend some time in & around San Ignacio and Hopkins. Visit Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary.

If you don't want to buy a guidebook, most libraries have copies.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Anyone know anything about hiking in the Mountain Pine Ridge nature reserve?

hiking in the Mountain Pine Ridge nature reserve?

It's a great area, I hiked some trails around, it is steep but very nice, however I spent a couple of days just hiking the river, it's fantastic, big pools, falls, some slides and nobody around.
