The hubby and I are heading to Belize February 10 - 20. Since this is a busy time of year, is it best to book our hotels in advance? We will spend about half of the time around San Ignacio and the other half on Caye Caulker. In all of our backpacking trips, we usually just find a place the same day, but I would hate to not be able to find a room (or end up paying double!)

I wouldn't reserve in advance unless it was a holiday period, such as Easter or Christmas, or you had your eye on one particular hotel.

Also if you're heading to CC on a Friday night or Saturday, you might want to reserve in advance. I usually go on weekdays.

I am going to Belize Feb. 6 - 21. I wanted to book my first place (in Hopkins) in advance. All 3 places I was interested in were fully booked by January 13! I had to reverse my itinerary. Even the place I will stay near San Ignacio couldn't give me all the nights I wanted. I was very surprised!

Hotel owners say this year generally has been busier than usual and busier than expected. February and March are the top months of the year for tourist arrivals in Belize, but even so you will be able to find something. However, the most popular and best-value places may be fully booked. So, if you're not picky and don't mind looking around a bit you'll be fine, but if you have particular places you're interested in you should book ahead.

In my 8 winter trips to Belize over 13 years, I have yet to have a problem finding lodging. Im partial to Hotel Miramar in Caulker. Tell 'em Eddy sent you.
