I'm traveling with my seven year old daughter Oct 9 -16. I know some places don't operate during that time due to hurricanes. I've only spent time in Placencia and Punta Gorda a few years so don't know anything about Caye Caulker. Would folks recommend staying more Island during this rainy season or would Caye Caulker still be a fun place even in the rain or are most places pretty much shut down during this month? Any help or recommendations for The Crooked Tree or the Baboon Sanctury would be greatly appreciated.....Also, will it be to wet to camp (I'm assuming?) Thanks!

We stayed at the Community Baboon Sanctuary in August 2009; there are photos, a blog, and a travelogue linked below and you can check out my Trip Advisor post if you'd like; it's listed with a Dec. 29 date because that's when I posted it.

I don't recommend camping, rainy season or not. We lugged camping gear all over Belize in 2003 with our kids and I'll never do that again! Better to pack really light and find places within your budget to sleep. There may be personal safety issues and you wouldn't have anyone to watch your stuff (tent, sleeping gear) when you were not with it.

We really enjoy the zoo which is best to avoid on cruise ship days; there's a link on this page to help with that.

Lots of photos and recommendations below - have a great trip!

a bad (weather) day on Caye Caulker is better than the best day in temperate zones

A few places close during Sept and Oct due to low occupancy, not hurricane, which happen infrequently. Caye Caulker and Ambergris are further north and get less rain, but I would not expect rains to interfere with activities north of south. I like Birds Eye in Crooked Tree and Chaa Creek has a great catered campground on property.
