Is there something we're missing here? You're landing in Belize on the 19th and the first thing you're concerned about is extending your 30-day Belize tourist card?

You are talking about your Belize tourist card?

you get a 30 day visa upon entry (at the airport). if you enter at one of the borders, it's usually 1-4 weeks depending on how the immigration agent feels that day. then, you can renew the visa for 30 more days for $50 BZ. you have to do 30 day intervals and $50BZ each time. (don't know if you visit immigration in BMP if they will renew for longer). but, having said all that, if you leave the country 5 days after you renew (or any time for that matter), you will loose the rest of the time.

Hello and thanks everybody for the responses.

LanSluder: My visa is valid until may 1st. that's why i'm worried about extending it.

I assume then that you are not a citizen of one of the countries whose citizens do not need a visa? (There are about 60 or 70.) Some people in this thread are referring to the tourist cards as visas, but they are not true visas -- they are just 30-day tourist cards and are available to citizens of the USA, Canada, EU nations, Australia, Mexico, and other many countries.

You apparently are a citizen of a country, such as Panama or Switzerland, that does require a visa, and you have received such a visa earlier from a Belize embassy and it expires May 1?

In this case, most of the responses on this thread are not pertinent to your situation. You will not receive a 30-day tourist card when you enter Belize.

You would probably need to go to a Belize Immigration and Nationality Department office and work out the extension. There are immigration offices around the country (Belize City, San Pedro, Corozal, and elsewhere), but you may need to go to the main office in Belmopan. I'm not sure about that.

It may be also that your national embassy, if there is one in Belize, can be of assistance.

I see now from recent posts that you are a Panamanian citizen. There is a Panama embassy in Belize, in Belmopan.

Yes. I would also get this sorted out in Panama before i went to Belize. Immigration officers are a fickle bunch. Once in the country, you're at their mercy.

Just a warning. Because of all the criminals in Belize these days, i suggest you carry all your documentation with you where ever you travel within the country. Last time i was there in Feb, there was an immigration checkpoint going towards Belize city and everyone was asked for documents. I wasn't carrying my passport at the time, and was taken off the bus, and held. I was able to sort out the problem, since my wife is Belizean, but if you're alone, you'll be held until you can prove who you are and if you have entered the country legally.

Actually, there is no law in Belize that requires anyone to carry ID
