Does anyone out there know if a Moviestar cell phone from Nicaragua will work in Belize? Do any cell's from the US work there? Can you buy a cheap cell at the airport with about 100 US minutes on it? What do they go for? Thanks for the help.
I have a Claro phone that I bought in Nicaragua and have traveled through Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala with it, about to go to Belize. I´m not sure if Movistar is the same, but I´d guess that it is; in each new country I had to buy a new SIM card. They only cost about $5 a piece. I first went to an ´official´ Claro store and they said I´d have to buy a new phone in each country I traveled, but then went to a local street vendor and found out that all that is really needed is a new SIM card. So now I have four different SIM cards, each has its own phone number, and when I head back do I´ll just use the SIM card that works for the country I´m in.
Claro doesn´t offer any service in Belize as far as I know, but if Movistar does I would guess all you´ll need is a new SIM card. You´ll have a new number and be able to buy minutes just like in Nicaragua. Hope that helps a little

US phones work in Belize, as do almost all other Central American phones. As long as your phone is unlocked and uses a sim card (not all phones work this way, good to check ahead) you'll be able to switch it out for a sim card of one of the phone services in Belize. Smart is a pretty common service. I've got to say though, phone credit is much more expensive in Belize than in surrounding countries. Good luck!
