Any recommendations for lodging and activity in Caye Caulker? I'll be staying there for a few nights in February before making my way into the jungle to work with a shaman. I prefer quiet, safe (solo female), swimming, snorkeling. Not interested in imbibing life.

Treetops is ultra-clean, safe for solo women, near the water, moderately priced, run by an Austrian woman. Often fully booked, though.

Maxhapan is a nice, friendly, locally owned small place, near budget, not on the water but everybody loves it. Also very popular.

A fallback would be Caye Caulker Plaza Hotel, a newish Chinese-owned hotel in the middle of the island.

Check out Shirley's Guesthouse -- it's away from the central town area, but closer to the airport.

It's listed on this site:

Just got back from Belize a week ago - incredible! We spent 5 nights in Caye Caulker at Tropical Paradise Hotel right on the beach. It was a pleasant surprise: simple yet clean, comfortable rooms, with a laid-back "tropical paradise" feel. We actually found it once we got there - just walked to it from the water taxi stop, after asking some local guys for recommendations. We were delighted with our find. The woman at the reception was warm and friendly, and we thought it was excellent value. Happy travels!
Just found the link for it: http://www.tropicalparadise-cayecaulker.com/
