At least go to Caye Caulker as a day trip and, like Greggo says, decide for yourself. We loved Caye Caulker, went to Ambergris Caye as a day trip and thought the town was awful--crowded, a bit squalid, noisy. We got bikes and rode north, and the surroundings got better and there seemed to be some nice looking resorts there. Fun lunch at Palapa Bar and Grill, but then we got right back to CC as fast as possible. However, CC has no real resorts or huge beaches. We stayed at what is probably the fanciest and most expensive place in town--$125 with breakfast, a pool, AC. In December, high season. Very nice, too..
