Hi,

We are spending December in Belize and would like to do a Kayak trip visiting the cayes, beaches and islands along the coast.

Could anyone offer any good recommendations for companies they have used recently ?

We would consider anything from 3 to 10 days, and would don't mind if it is camping or lodging accomodation (camping preference)

We would prefer cheaper tours aimed at the backpacker market if possible, as a lot of the tours seem to be aimed at the expensive North american market.
A lot of the tours also seem to include internal flights at the end of the tour which increase the price, but as we have some time on our hands we could do without the flight.

Do any less expensive options operate out of Caye Caulker ?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks

I stayed at Thatch Caye Resort recently and they did offer camping, although my wife and I stayed in one of their lovely casitas. We are both getting a little too old for camping. The site for camping is on the north end of the island and is very nice though, with a bamboo bar and eating area and lots of space. They also have sea kayaks for use of the guests and you could probably get some very good information from their staff about the best places to see. They are located right in a marine reserve and we saw manatees, spotted eagle rays, and dolphins while we were there. There is even a special island bird sanctuary nearby perfect for viewing frigate and booby birds up close.

If you want to do an organized point-to-point kayaking trip, it's hard to do it on the cheap. You might have to base yourself in one spot and loop back each time. Many tours include internal flights because the buses suck bad. Here's more: buses in Belize .

Hello
I don’t know much about Caye Caulker kayaking trips but if you would like to go to south of Belize, there is a company called TIDE Tours that do Kayaking along the coast and to the surrounding cayes. They do camping and they can organize the trip to your needs.

You can take a bus from Belize City to Punta Gorda (takes about 6 hours) or you can fly as well if you are pushed for time. The buses and planes leave all the time from Belize City.

Hope this helps
Regards
