I am travelling to Belize with a friend. We have got lots of great info and would love a little more advice!
Our rough plan is to go straight to Caye Caulker, for a bout 4 nights including Christmas. Any hotel recommendations, something comfortable and pleasant, beyond roughing it!
Then we hope to head to Lamanai for a few nights, again any recommendations on hotels?
Finally back to Ambergris for New years, also looking for accommodation ideas?
All advice would be welcome, getting very mixed reports,
Thanks

It depends on your budget. In the Lamanai area, the clear choice is the Lamanai Outpost Lodge--nothing else compares. But it is EXPENSIVE. We stayed there this past February, but it was an unprecedented splurge for us (but worth every penny, when you factor in the tours, service, and location). If spending $500/night is out of the question for whatever reason, I'd recommend a day tour from Caye Caulker instead of staying in the area.

Sounds like you have some money, so I will suggest Caye Caulker Condos. They are very close tot he split, have nice rooms with small kitchens and a proch overlooking the sea. There is a palapa on the roof where you can hang in a chair or hammock and catch sun rise or set. Second floor is the best. About $135 nite.
Laminia outpost lodge is the best and if you e-mail them about a room only, no extra's you may be able to get a room for about $195 nite. I almost booked it for a trip with two other couples this year but we chose to go to Mystic River outside San Ignacio instead. I've been there though and it is very nice, good ruins that you can walk to and free use of canoes did it for me. There were places to eat in town so we did that. There is a new place on teh lagoon in town that has about 4 rooms with a bar/restaurant over the rooms, I would question noise, but I think that's only about $50 less. Worth the $50 for the outpost lodge. If you haven't already booked, it's probably a moot point as they both will not doubt be full already. Things fill up fast especially for the holidays!!

Hi, stayed at Chilas rooms on caye caulker,(google) great location above the ice cream shop near ragamuffin tours. A small 'studio' apartment, very clean and simple, safe etc. Hammock, balcony etc. Chila can not do enough for you, its $50 a night, minimum is 3 nights. Eating go to wish willies, again simple but amazing food, what ever he has caught that day ie lobster, prawns, squid etc with alcohol included for $20 belize also does veggie option same price. all this is not far from the split. Snorkelling and diving at the blue hole is just great, long day but saw sharks, turtles, dolphins, loads of wonderful other fish and coral and that was just snorkelling. If the water is rough sit on a life jacket, helps with the sore arse syndrome we suffered with!!!!
