Trip advisor confuses me - the reviews range from terrible to awesome (I think I am researching too much - analysis paralysis is setting in)

So I'll ask you: For the last two nights of our trip I'd like to be pretty chill and relaxed. Anyone who's been to this particular place care to comment on it?

I'm into the idea of snorkeling off the dock to teach our little one all about it. And then doing a lot of nothing.

Thanks!

I've stayed at Caribbean Villas several times over the years, the last time probably two or three years ago. A few months ago when I was in San Pedro I stayed elsewhere but stopped in and briefly toured the hotel grounds.

I can understand why it would get mixed reviews from TripAdvisor. It is not a deluxe place and isn't really in the same category as the newer, very upscale condotels and resorts on the island. But it has several appealing features. First, it's comfortable and low-key and not as expensive as a number of the tonier places. Second, it has wonderful grounds -- it's one of the few places left south of the river channel that has fairly extensive grounds -- several acres. Third, it has a pretty nice beach area and pier, along with a pool. No restaurant on-site, but plenty are nearby, and you can get breakfast at the hotel, near the beach.

I would stay there again.

Yes, I've stayed there (and probably 150 or 200 other hotels in Belize!) Last time I tried to stay there, last summer, it was fully booked, which was a surprise.

Rooms and cabañas vary a good deal, all are good to excellent value, nice pool, great view from the (very steep) hill top.
