I have been researching the Dominican Republic for a little while now. I'm a junior in college, and looking for a fun spring break destination. Last year, my group and I went to Puerto Rico. We spent time on Vieques, in Fajardo, in San Juan, and in el Yunque. We had a great time, but realized that we easily could have spent much more money on the trip.

After we ( 2 couples in our 30's) celebrate New Year in NYC we want to fly to Caribbean (never been there) for a week of beach and cultural experience.
Please, help to choose an island taking into account
- flight out of New York
- we are not beach bums, we like to rent a bike and drive around for architecture and culture, local everyday life and street food
- the beach is important though
- we would like to stay in a small private beach guest house nicely designed with a budget up to 80…

Anyway, what is the general opinion on Curacao (Jan Thiel f.i.) on women bathing topless? Is it frowned upon or is it accepted?

i have around 3 - 4 weeks off that i need to take towards the end of december and im playing with the idea of going to DR but also visiting some near by caribbean islands.

So these are my questions:

1 - do you think that 3 - 4 weeks in Boca Chica is far too much?

2 - does the beach in Boca Chica have blue crystal clear waters - similar to the maldives?

3 - are there any other caribbean islands that you can recommend that is close to DR and how much would it cost to get to there?

We are taking a cruise Christmas week. Where would be a moderately priced, clean place to stay the night before that would make for convenient travel (relatively close) to the cruise terminal?

Hi! :-) I am looking for a place to be for 1-2 months that either facilitates a detox/cleanse program, or is such a place that would lend itself to this if I were to do this on my own.
