I recently had the oportunity to travel to Haiti for some days, and found out how much this country has to offer. Beautiful historical constructions, from the colonial times and early days after independence especially. Its arts and folclore are very genuine, and nature, beaches and mountains very pleasant. Of course it lacks a real tourism infraestructure, and as traveler you face bargaining thru all day long in matters like getting a taxi or buying souvenirs, but according to my experience it was worth it, and besides I felt like I was helping in a little way I can, such spending some money there and encouraging haitians to work and tell them what we travelers and tourists like and don´t like from them, and how it could teach them to start making an appealing name in terms of geeting more visitors to this country which really needs it. I appreciate the good services of the people I met there, young folks like Azda, the tourist guide or the receptionist at Hotel Imperial who want to improve the image of their country. Thank you very much! Teaching people how to work and giving them ideas and oportunities is a good way to start helping a nation which has suffered a lot!
Great to see you travelling to a country that has a lot of stigma attached to it, and could surely use all the help it can get!
The more people hear accounts of how amazing it was, the more people will begin to visit.
Can I ask, are you a fluent French speaker? Would it be very difficult as an English speaker with only some basic Spanish as a 2nd language?
Thanks!

Hi, well yes, I speak french but not on a high level. Besides they speak normally in creole, which makes it a bit harder, but I am sure you can manage to travel around with only english and some spanish. You have to take in account that right now Haiti is not a country with easy tourism infraestructure, I would suggest you maybe to hire the services of some tourist guide at least for a couple of days, while you find out if it is posible to travel on your own, I paid Azda Haiti Tours, the guy was nice. Good luck and enjoy!

I enjoyed reading your post because I'm very interested in visiting Haiti this year. Can you share more on Azda Haiti Tours and your experience with them? Would you recommend them or another company? Any tips are appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Steven, I do recomend him (Azda T H ), because actually the company is a young guy! I had a good time with him in Cap Haitian. What you can do is to hire his services for 3 or 4 days, if you like it, you keep him more days. You must have in mind that Haiti is a country with deep social and economical problems, so it´s always better to have local company, they can give you good orientation at least in the first days. Enjoy your trip and tell me after the trip your own experience. Good luck.
